Efficiency of Wood-Processing Enterprises—Evaluation Based on DEA and MPI: A Comparison between Slovakia and Bulgaria for the Period 2014–2018

The ongoing transition to a low-carbon, sustainable forest-based economy, and the adoption of circular bioeconomy principles in wood-processing industry is associated with optimization natural resources, application environmentally production technologies, technological organizational innovations, increased economic efficiency competitiveness. implementation all these measures can help reach biggest challenge our time fight against climate change cost-effective competitive way. aim this study was estimate technical companies Slovak Republic Bulgaria by applying data envelopment analysis (DEA) Malmquist productivity index (MPI), reveal some factors for improvements. evaluation based on official performed using selected indices four each country period 2014–2018. implemented an output-oriented DEA model constant returns scale as nonparametric linear approach measuring decision-making units (DMUs). results obtained revealed that studied were more efficient better management terms machinery planning overhead utilization. Markedly, Bulgarian achieved materials current quality. Increased enterprises both countries be realized through investments innovative improvements, enhanced research development activities.
